Fa Hien Caves

Fa hien caves basking on the kalutara district are the oldest evidences for Mesolithic habitation in Sri Lanka. The cave gets the name due to the visit by the Buddhist monk and the explorer 'Fa hieyn' to ancient caves in 399 A.D. Thero 'Fa hien' was at residency for a while on his journey to the Adams peak. These are concerned as the largest cave complex in sri lanka.

In addition you have to go for the Yatagampitiya village near the Bulathsinhala town of kalutara to see the caves. The cliff face where the caves are positioned is marvelous. So that, it is witnessed through the Radiocarbon examines hat they are now 33000- 4750 years old.

Kande Viharaya Temple

Kande viharaya temple located at Aluthgama is another tourist attraction that you may get astound of the tourism of sri lanka. Thousands of devotees flock daily to the temple and obey the rituals. This 48 m height statue is the tallest sitting Buddha statue in the world.

It is also popular as Galkanda Viharaya until it was upgraded in the name of 'Rankoth Viharaya'. The temple is built on a top of a rock boulder and can be seen from the far distance.

The dwelling place of the monks was built around 1830 A.D. it is believed that the place has a history going back. Hence the preaching hall of the temple is a impressive, with Dutch architecture.
