Anuradhapura as a great city in Sri Lanka which was capable enough to host great history is now opened to the travelers on all around the world. Among other tourist attractions in Anuradhapura, Royal palace retained its glory and prestige for long ago. It is located about 200 m north from the Thuparama Dagoba . The Royal Palace was built by the King Vijayabahu who ascended to the throne in the 12th century. King Vijayabahu built this palace for some transitional ceremonies in Anuradhapura. He chose Polonnaruwa as his reservation or the controlling unit and shifted the capital in there. The Palace measures about 128 x 216 feet in quantity. There was a Dalada maligawa in the south of the palace where a tooth relic of Buddha was placed and worshiped for the first time in Ceylon. The tooth of Lord Buddha was received in 313 A.D. Thus now the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha resides in the Dalada Maligawa, Kandy.
Most of the materials used to build secular buildings the Anuradhapura Kingdom were wood, earth, and stone. The wood buildings haven’t survived today. Gradually the stone buildings still exist. Such an example is the Royal Palace of Anuradhapura.While enjoying under the shelter of huge trees and feeding monkeys you can watch the buffaloes who are gazing at paddy fields near the Royal Palace. You can see a ruined temple on its southern side. Today the Royal Palace is regarded as a photogenic site for the travelers too.
