
Dunhida water fall can be seen at Soranathota where you have to take about 5 kilo meteres from Badulla town in Sri Lanka. This high ranked tourist destination is about 64 meteres(210 feet) in height. It is evident that you will be amazed of the beauty of the water fall when you approached the destination. Dunhida got this name as it is like a smoky dew drops spray which jumps from a high gap of Badulu river which goes through the Badulla town. Even it is more fascinating on the months of November to March as it carries a huge volume of water in this rainy season of Sri Lanka. Subsequently it is enriched with Uma Oya, Hal Oya and small rivers from Bandarawela and Welimada areas.
In addition to reach the fall you have to walk nearly a 1 km of distance on foot. But it will bring you a fascinating experience to see wild birds, butterflies , monkeys ,deers etc as it worth very much for the tourists interested in wild life.On the way you can see another small waterfall named Kuda Dinhida at a glance. Thus you can taste and refresh yourself by having a native herbal drink by the venders on sides of the way to the water fall. At the end of this journey you can meet a secured stage constructed for the viewers and enjoy the water fall. If you are very much confident, you can reach the foot of the water fall and cross the river. While enjoying the fall its better to remind that do not go closer to the fall or bathe as it is deep and full of slippery rocks and stones near the bottom of the water fall.
Hence Randenigala ,Victoria and Rantambe are identified as the three main water valleys down sided from the Dunhida Water fall. Apart from being a natural water resource it has been a relaxation for the tourists. Dunhida water fall was not present when the Badulla town is a large Valley. But it was a long time ago. A Big Vine was blocked the way of Badulu river, so that the town had to become a valley. In that time a person called ‘Ranhawadi Dhuraya’ agreed to remove this Huge Vine. But He got failed after trying several times. However he could cut off the vine after several months. This inference created beautiful water fall called Dunhida and defined as a significant tourism place.
