Kabbella Lena Cave Temple

 Kabbella Lena Cave Temple

Kabbella lena cave temple is located on Kurunegala - Puttalam road close to the Wariyapola town. The temple was established by King Walagamaba or Vatta gamini abhaya in 104 B.C. The temple is almost covered with huge rock boulders. You have to climb up on a steep stairway cut into the rock which leads to the cave temple.

Meanwhile you will find a beautiful but poorly maintained natural pool at the top of the rock. Simultaneously you will find one of the largest reclining Buddha statues in Sri lanka inside the vihara geya or Image house. Further beautiful but old frescoes on the inner walls and the huge statues of Yaksha and Deva are wonderful. It should be noted that the travelers are not permitted to take photographs in the image house.
